Van Meter baseball triumphed over Cardinal and Treynor this week, winning both the 2-A substate 6 championship and the state quarterfinal. 

Van Meter 12, Cardinal 2

Van Meter defeated Cardinal 12-2 on July 21 in the 2A substate 6 championship, bolstered by an 8-run third inning. 

Three runs were scored by Jack Pettit. Two runs each were scored by Zach Pleggenkuhle, Brett Berg, and Chris Schreck. Ganon Archer, Cody Coffman, and Tyler Haynes each scored 1 run. 

Anthony Potthoff pitched this game, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, and earning 8 strikeouts. 

Van Meter 1, Treynor 0

Van Meter beat Treynor 1-0 on Monday in the state quarterfinal. The Bulldogs’ one run was scored in the 8th inning by Chris Schreck. 

Zach Pleggenkuhle pitched 1.1 innings, allowing no hits and earning 4 strikeouts. Anthony Potthoff pitched 6.2 innings, allowing no hits and earning 13 strikeouts.
