Both Jaden Sweeney and sophomore Reilly Hoven got touches on the ball Friday at Winterset’s Meet the Team night, and although the center snap to the QB needs improvement, both Sweeney and Hoven were able to move the ball.

Sweeney has big shoes to fill in Casey Kleemeier, who graduated last year, but the Huskies have 20 seniors out for football this year, and coach Zach Sweeney told the plays at a team huddle Friday “we’re trying to play a lot of guys.”

Twenty seniors is the most we have seen in years. Last year, there were 16 seniors on the squad.

Those who attended Meet the Team night got a glimpse of what the renovated McGaffin Field will look like. Tops is the 1,500-seat bleachers, on the home side. They stand 20 rows tall with the center of the bleachers very close to the 50-yard line. Really, there shouldn’t be a bad seat in the place.

School officials say that the main parking will now be in the parking lots north of the stadium. The lot between the football stadium and the high school is closed while the construction season continues, which included the construction of a new competition gymnasium at the south end of that parking lot.

Fans are asked to enter at the northwest side of the stadium.

Recommended seating

The marching band should sit in the south end of the bleachers with the HS student section next to the band. MS and JH students should sit in the north end of the bleachers while elementary students are being asked to sit with their parents.

There are about 500 more home seats this year.

Tailgaiting will be allowed up to the start of the ninth grade FB game at 4:45 p.m.
