We have been busy in the court house with our move to the annex building. I must say the employees are doing an amazing job. Thank you. We are repairing bridges and working on roads. I realize nothing in government is done quickly enough but we are making progress.

The weed commissioner is now housed at secondary roads and doing a very good job. Please don’t make him send you a letter requesting you cut your weeds. Be responsible and cut your own weeds. People say to me “I own my land and can do anything I want.” I think God owns our land, therefore, we need to be thankful and respectful. When you allow weeds to live on your land they soon leave your property like nasty little gang members and quickly take over your neighbors land, and then just keep moving on until they have a strong hold. Don’t make us be the bad guy. Cut your weeds! You will not be happy if we hire someone to do the cutting for you. It is much cheaper if you do it yourself.

The Macksburg skillet throw was great fun. I must admit I will not be getting requests to be on anyone’s team in the near future.

Remember the 4th of July parade in Earlham, and the 5th in Patterson. Do we as a nation understand what the 4th of July really represents? Do we teach our children the meaning of Independence Day or do we simply enjoy the parades, hot dogs, beer and astounding fireworks. July 4th or Independence Day was the birth of our nation. June of 1776 Thomas Jefferson sent the first draft of the Declaration of Independence to Great Britain. The final wording was completed on July 4, 1776. It was signed Aug. 2, 1776. After the signing of the Declaration of Independence our forefathers had to fight a war, so the rest of us could enjoy freedom.

As a nation are we teaching and holding dear what freedom really means? Politicians use the constitution for every argument they have, even though there is no argument. We make everything political. It is not. Most decisions in government simply boil down to common sense, much as in everyday life for the rest of us.

Get involved, use your voice, volunteer. We need volunteers for RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI is a great time to show the rest of the country, how nice we are, how well organized we are, and what a great place Madison County is to live in.

2 Corinthians 3:17—Now the Lord is the spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
