Throughout the world wind turbines have become a much contested topic. I am openly opposed to wind turbines and have not changed my views. I have read research on both sides for approximately five years. I beg anyone of you who are contemplating signing on a dotted line, to read very carefully anything that requires your signature. Remember the big print giveth and the small print taketh away. Thursday night at the board of health meeting the board voted the following:

Resolved that the Madison County Board of Health determines that there is the potential for negative health effects associated with commercial wind turbines and that current setbacks are inadequate to protect the public health. The Board encourages those entities with jurisdiction within the County to require a one and one-half (1 ½) mile setback from non-participating residences for future wind turbine projects.

The action by the Board of Health will now require the county supervisors to make a concrete decision. I do not make decisions because of ego or personal feelings. I make decisions based on faith because I believe that is the chief transmitter of ones values. I strive to do what I feel is best for the majority. Please do what is right and take care of your property. You are not being a good neighbor by allowing your weeds to encroach onto adjoining property.

Friendly Reminder: Treasurer, Assessor, Recorder and Zoning are now in the West Annex Building (Union State Bank, next to the Post Office) Weed Commissioner is at the Secondary Roads Department, Environmental Health is located in the Public Health Building.

Many of you are calling me to compliment the road crews. Residents are stating if they call secondary roads, the response time is quick and the problems corrected. We are better together. Thank you for letting us know of issues we can correct. We realize some problems, like the St. Charles highway, are not quick fixes. Our plan is to repave the St. Charles highway next year. Counties are required to set goals and live within their budgets. We do that and will strive to always improve.

RAGBRAI and Hinterland are now behind us. My Bed & Breakfast guests from Colorado, Minnesota and Kansas had nothing but kind words to say about Madison County. Others perceive us by the image we project. Keep up the good work Madisonians. Attitude is the most important aspect of our ability to succeed.

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
