It’s time for young people interested in serving as pages in the upcoming legislative session to apply. The applicable forms are available on the Iowa Legislature website. Pages may serve in the Senate, the House or the Legislative Services Agency. Pages must be at least 16 years of age, and pages are usually juniors or seniors in high school. Most pages run errands for legislators. Some work for specific legislative officials. Senate and House pages spend nearly all their time in the legislative chambers, so they learn first-hand about how the Senate and House function.
It has been very common for us to have pages from Warren and Madison Counties serving. I believe they all they have enjoyed the work. Most are able to live at home while serving which is an advantage. Some have come back as legislative clerks, working for specific legislators.
Pages receive $9.14 per hour for a 40-hour work week. They wear uniforms and male pages must wear a tie, the same as male Senators and Representatives.
Applications must be in by Oct. 4. Applications must be submitted at www.legis.iowa.gov/careers.
