Louise Nelson, 92, of Truro died Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at Clarke County Hospital.
Services were held at Kale Funeral Home - Osceola on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, with Rev. Kenneth Briggs officiating. Interment was in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Truro Congregational United Church of Christ (155 E. Garfield, Truro IA 50257).
Louise Nelson, daughter of Alva Oliver Thomas and Grace Elizabeth Hopkins, was born Jan. 23, 1927, near Grand River, Iowa. Louise graduated from Grand River High School in 1945. She attended summer school at Simpson College in Indianola, to attain her teaching certificate. Her teaching career spanned over 13 years, first in the country schools of Decatur and Clarke counties and then in Truro. She remained there for another three years when she met her future husband, Raymond. Louise was united in marriage to Raymond Nelson on April 19, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Grand River. Two children blessed this union. She was a member of Jolly Fu Club in Truro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Nelson; brothers, Donald “Dean” Thomas (Virginia Thomas) and Maurice Thomas (Beulah Thomas); sister-in-law, Isabel Nelson; brothers-in-law, Wayne Nelson and Don Green; infant nephew, Rodney Green; niece, Patricia Davidson; nephew, Mark Green; and nephew, Eldon Thomas.
She is survived by her sons, Keith Nelson of Truro and Brian (Shelley) Nelson of New Virginia; grandchildren, Abbie (Greg) Saxton of Truro, Alexis (Matt) Owens of Red Oak, Sierra Nelson of New Virginia, Jessica Nelson of Urbandale and Chad Nelson of Truro; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Marge) Thomas of Osceola; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Green of Osceola; daughter-in-law, Becky Nelson of Urbandale; and many other relatives and friends.
