Joseph Dale Carney Jr., 49, of Winterset died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Sunday, Feb. 2the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church (903 W. Summit St.) with a light luncheon following. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends and family.
Joe Jr. was born May 21, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Judy Kay and Joseph Dale Carney Sr. The family moved to rural Winterset in 1973. He graduated from Winterset Senior High School in 1989; competing in Golden Gloves and modeling for Younkers were his touted accomplishments. He went on to college at Ellsworth in Iowa Falls where he kicked off his career in auto sales. This eventually led to having a transmission and auto sales business in Iowa City with his ex-wife, Amanda Schumacher. Together they had four children; Chloe Kae, Connor Joseph, Cole Douglas and Carlee Jeane. The family home was in Solon, Iowa, until Joe Jr. moved back to Winterset in 2015 for assistance with his health.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Darcy O’Brien (Carney); paternal grandparents, Katie and Walter Carney; and maternal grandparents, Waunita and Rodney Maxson.
He is survived by his parents, Judy and Joseph; children, Dylan Cox, Chloe, Connor, Cole and Carlee; siblings: Jamie (Jennifer) Carney, Laresa Carney, Joshua Carney, Jacob Carney and Kayla Carney; foster brothers, Rob Benson and Andrew Fath; and many nieces and nephews.
