Dorothy Stowell, 99, of Winterset passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at Azria Health (West Bridge Care & Rehab) in Winterset.
A visitation was held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, with family receiving friends during this time. A funeral service followed. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Dorothy Marie Hohertz Stowell, was born on Aug. 27, 1920, to John and Christine Ehm Hohertz in Fontanelle, Iowa. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a teen. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1939 and married Ernest Stowell on Dec. 28, 1940. To this union three children were born. Ernie and Dorothy moved to Winterset in 1948 and managed the Madison County Auction for many years. Dorothy was a homemaker. She also assisted her husband at Madison County Auction and clerked for him at farm and furniture sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine (Ehm) Hohertz; her husband, Ernest; her son, John; son-in-law, Earl Mobley; grandsons, Kent Mobley and Greg Stowell; two brothers, Arthur Hohertz and Don Hohertz; sister, Margaret Krueger; sisters-in-law, Helen Hohertz and Florence Hohertz; and brother-in-law, Bernard Krueger.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Mobley of Sioux City and Roger Stowell of Des Moines; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lola Stowell of Greenfield; and many other family members and friends.
