On Saturday, Nov. 23, the Iowa High School Music Association and Iowa Music Educators Association presents the 73rd annual All-State Music Festival Concert. This concert features the All-State Orchestra, All-State Chorus, and All-Stale Band and will be presented at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Winterset High School had 21 students audition on instruments and 11 students audition as vocalists. 

Selected for the All-State Band are Nathan Suddarth, Rochelle Lopez, Lia Miller, Caitlin Hornback and Sophia Pastorino. Brad LaGrange and Mackenzie Flatt were named as alternates for the band. 

Selected for the All-State Orchestra are Kiernan Blanchard, Trey Patterson and Ethan Suddarth.

Selected for the All-State Choir are Morgan Wickman and Shannah Pastory. 

A 73-year tradition

The 2019 Festival will celebrate the 73rd anniversary of this prestigious event. District auditions for the 279-piece All-State Band, 227-piece All-State Orchestra, and 601-member All-State Chorus were held Saturday, Oct. 26, at LeMars, Hampton, Independence, Atlantic, Indianola and Washington. Approximately 17 percent of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. 

Participants will rehearse in Ames on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23, and the Festival Concert will be presented to the public on Saturday evening. Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast. Please check the IPTV web site (www.iptv.org) for the exact dates and times.
