The Cedar Lake Trails Development project was the big winner in the 2020 round of grants for county-wide projects – Winterset will receive nearly $22,000 in funding towards the $64,000 project. The group had requested $25,000.

There were six big-ticket awards where $10,000 or more was granted as part of $115,000 that will be given away this year.

Other substantial grant recipients included the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department, Community Efforts of Macksburg, Earlham Music Boosters, Madison County Development Group, and Friends of the Madison County Courthouse. Monies will help with projects ranging from a new playground at St. Charles to community building improvements in Macksburg, to band uniforms for the Earlham marching band as well as funds to help study internet connectivity in Winterset and to restore the county courthouse in Winterset.

A total of 14 groups will receive financial helps for their 2020 projects.

Other groups that will receive financial help include the Madison County Fairgrounds Association (restroom renovation); Madison County Extension (K-5 STEM programming); the Madison County Scenic Byways project (promotional brochures/rubbing materials); Madison County Heart & Soul; CRISP (Educational programing); Iowa Theater (lobby history of the theater); the Madison County Master Gardeners (Storybook Gardens accessibility sidewalk); and Madison County Leadership Institute (Middle River emergency signage).

The 13 groups that did not receive funding during the 2020 round of grant disbursements all are encouraged to resubmit applications next year.

Co Safe House Expenses ($15,600); Earlham Community School District, ECSD Building Security Enhancements ($13,000); Earlham Chicks with Checks, Earlham City Park Stage and Bathroom Upgrade ( $7,000); Bricker-Price Block Restoration Corporation, BIG Dream Gathering ($5,000); Winterset VFW Post # 8142, Renovation of cement floor ($5,000); Winterset Art Center, Community Art Installation ($4,200); Legacy of Christopher Allsup Foundation, Inc. , Replace portable gasoline containers ($1,887); Iowa Quilt Museum, Logo Attraction signs on I-35 ($920); Winterset Disc Golf Club, Community Awareness of disc golf ($3,075); Winterset Rotary Club, WCS Competition Gym Retractable Flag ($2,968).
