Corkreans named Iowans of the Day

Pat and Nancy Corkrean were chosen as one of the 10 “outstanding individuals” to be Iowan of the Day at this year’s Iowa State Fair. The couple said when they received the phone call, they thought it was a “spoof call” from family.

Pat and Nancy Corkrean of Winterset have been selected as the 2019 Iowans of the Day and will be introduced at the Anne & Bill Riley Stage, Thursday, Aug. 15, during the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Pat, owner of Madison Co. Realty, is involved in the community and was instrumental in starting the Iowa Quilt Museum and helping Marianne Fons in bringing quilt businesses to town. He is also a member of the Rotary and Optimist clubs.

As a couple, they have served on the board of the John Wayne Birthplace for over 30 years and are active members of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Nancy devotes her time to the senior meal site and meals on wheels, and is part of the committee to construct a new ambulance garage in Winterset.

As Iowans of the Day, Pat and Nancy will receive a cash prize, the use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart to travel the fairgrounds, VIP parking, four Iowa State Fair admission tickets, hotel accommodations at the downtown Des Moines Marriott hotel and four tickets to the grandstand concert that evening.

A State Fair tradition since 1997, the Iowan of the Day program started by the Blue Ribbon Foundation along with Cookies Food Products, honors outstanding Iowans who have made a difference in the lives of others. Integrity, Iowa pride, strong work ethic, volunteerism and dedication to their communities are some of the criteria judges look for in nominees.

Ten outstanding individuals are selected for each day of the state fair from Aug. 8-18.
