The 16th Annual Darwin Dasher Christmas concert is Sunday, Dec. 1, in the Henry Miller auditorium at the high school from 4-5 p.m. The concert will feature seasonal music performed by the Winterset Community Band and Community Chorus.

Following the concert, a free will offering soup supper will be held in the high school cafeteria, sponsored by the Winterset Band Boosters.

An annual Christmas tradition, the concert is named after Darwin Dasher, a former school band and community band director. A lifelong musician, in addition to teaching music on many levels at Winterset from 1968 until his retirement in 1996, he was involved in numerous musical endeavors.

Dasher played in the Des Moines Big Band, Veteran’s band and was active in singing with numerous church choirs and was also a member of the Southern gospel quartet, “Men of Grace”.

As a director and instrumentalist in the Community Band, Dasher passed away on the day of one of the community concerts and the concert has carried his name ever since.

Sue Hansen will be directing the band and choir this year in a musical start to the holiday season which is sponsored by Bridges Financial.
