Chris Nolte of Winterset has joined EveryStep Hospice of Osceola and Winterset as volunteer coordinator.
EveryStep is one of Iowa’s oldest non-profit hospice providers. Its locally based teams in Osceola and Winterset provide hospice care throughout Madison, Clarke, and Adair counties.
Nolte brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience and almost 40 years in community development to his new role. Most recently, Nolte worked as director of public relations and development for Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of the volunteer programs for all community organizations, including EveryStep.
Under normal circumstances, volunteers would call on hospice patients in their homes or health care facilities, to provide companionship and to assist the family as a family member faces his or her final days.
Volunteers have not been able to make in-person visits during the pandemic. Some patients are able to take phone calls, and volunteers have continued to remain in contact through that method.
As restrictions are lifted, EveryStep anticipates recruiting volunteers and conducting training to meet the needs of those they serve.
