Marion Hood, Winterset

Marion L. Hood, 85, of Winterset died June 15, 2007, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A memorial service was held Monday, June 18, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Jim Howland officiating.

Marion Hood was born Nov. 4, 1921, to Claude and Mildred (Wigton) Monagon and was a graduate of Winterset High School. She later attended beauty school. Her marriage to Wayne Hood took place in 1941. Marion, along with her husband, managed the family farm. Following her husband’s death, she was a home health care provider. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian Church. She and her husband also attended the Earlham Church of Christ where they were both baptized as adults. Marion also was a member of Farm Bureau and the Madison County Historical Society, where she volunteered.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Stephen Hood; one daughter, Sandra Hood; two sisters, Lucille Miller and Lois Nichols; and two brothers, Marvin and Kenneth Monagon.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Hood of Urbandale and Gary Hood of Winterset; two daughters, Sherrill Clark of Winterset and Karen Carter of Ankeny; and 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
